Heating Troubleshooting Guide
If you have noticed that your radiator is not as hot as it should be, please follow our troubleshooting guide below.
Check boiler pressure
Locate your boiler and find the pressure gauge. If the needle is in the red area, then this is likely the issue and you will need to top up the boiler pressure.
Every boiler manufacturer has a different way to do this. Please see our video below, which shows one of engineers topping up the boiler pressure.
INSERT VIDEO HERE – VIDEO NAME – How to top up boiler pressure – Have an engineer showing where you can usually find your boiler within the home, where the pressure gauge is & how to top up the boiler pressure on newer boilers. Also have him talking through the process for older boilers.
Below are two table’s made up of different manufacturers & the method used to top the boiler pressure up depending on boiler age
Manufacturer | Pressure gauge location | Method for topping up boiler pressure |
Worcester Bosch | TBC | TBC |
TABLE TO BE | COMPLETED | WITH ALL INFO OF BOILER TYPES |

Bleed the radiator
When air gets trapped inside your radiator, it can stop the heat from circulating properly. To release the air, you would complete a process called ‘bleeding’ your radiator.
Please follow the below steps:
- Switch off the heating
- Locate radiator key, insert into valve at the top of the radiator & turn
- The trapped air will begin to escape & make a hissing sound
- Once hissing stops, use your radiator key to tighten the valve
- Switch heating back on
- Check radiator to see if it has made a difference
Complete TRV checks
The TRV (thermostatic radiator valve) is the dial located at the side of your radiator which is used to control the temperature.
Sometimes, this can become faulty – the dial can stick or break. If this has happened, please get in touch with us so that we can fix the issue.
Thermostat checks
If there are a few radiators that are not heating up properly, this could indicate an issue with the thermostat.
The first step would be to try resetting the thermostat. Each thermostat has a different process for this – take a look at the guide that came with your thermostat and follow the instructions to reset this.
If this does not work, it may be that your thermostat is faulty – at this point, we would recommend getting in touch with the manufacturer.
