Energy saving tips
If you are looking for ways to help save energy and money, please read our tips below.
Turn the heating down
By turning your thermostat down by one degree, this can make a big difference to saving energy.
Lower the temperature when washing clothes
Using 20C or 30C to wash clothes instead of 40C will save energy.
Dont leave the lights on
When leaving a room, always remember to switch the light off. These small actions will add up.
Boiler flow temperature reduction
If you have a combi boiler, the boiler flow temperature is usually set to 70 degrees. Changing this to 55-60 degrees will ensure that your boiler works more efficiently. This will be an unnoticeable change within your home but will be saving you energy and money.
Turn off combi boiler preheat
If you have a combi boiler, there is a setting called preheat, which means that hot water is provided quickly. You can save energy by switching this off.
Bleed radiators
The best way to keep your radiators working efficiently is to bleed them. If your radiator has cold spots, please click here to follow our guide.
Keep area around radiators clear
Ensuring that radiators have enough space around them will improve air circulation, which means that they will work more efficiently. If you have objects or furniture near a radiator, it is best to leave a gap of a couple of inches.
Close the oven door and keep it shut
When cooking, keeping the oven door closed for the duration will save energy. Each time the door is opened, energy is lost as the oven needs to get back to temperature.
Appliance eco mode
Most modern appliances have an eco mode, switching this on will save energy.
Drying clothes
Hanging clothes on the washing line or clothes airer are much more energy efficient ways to dry your clothes than using a tumble dryer.
Use your air fryer or slow cooker
Both slow cookers & air fryers are more energy efficient than the oven so its good to use these where you can. Slow cookers may be on for longer periods of time but use a very small amount of energy compared to the oven. Air fryers cook in a much shorter time than the oven and use a lot less energy.
Unplug devices
When devices are not in use, unplug them. Devices are using energy just sitting there, waiting to be used. Switching them off at the socket and unplugging them when not in use will save energy.
