Guide to reading your gas meter

There are different types of gas meters and each has a different way of being read. Please read our guide below for more information.

Digital metric meter

This meter reads 22560.

To read a digital metric meter, you will read five numbers from left to right and ignore any numbers after the decimal place, which may be in red.

Imperial metric meter

This meter reads 8654.

To read an imperial metric meter, you will read four numbers from left to right and ignore any numbers shown in red.

Dial meter

This meter reads 2680.

To read a dial meter, you will read from left to right, the four dials along the bottom row only. Write the number down that is nearest to the needle. If the needle is directly in between two numbers, write down the number that is lowest on the dial, for example if it is between 9 and 0, you will write down 9. Each dial will turn in the opposite direction to the former, so you will need to check which way every one turns.
