Heat pumps

What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is a device that provides hot or cool air which is used to heat or cool down a property.

Heat pumps do not release any carbon emissions, therefore are better for the environment and will  replace gas boilers in the future, stopping the need for fossil fuels.

Heat pump types

There are three types of heat pumps.

Air source heat pumps work by taking the heat from the outside air. Click here to read our air source heat pump guide.

Ground source heat pumps work by taking the heat from the ground. Click here to read our ground source heat pump guide.

Water source heat pumps work by taking heat from water. Click here to read our water source heat pump guide.

How do heat pumps work?

Heat pumps work just like refrigerators but in reverse. They work by taking natural gas from outside of the property and compressing it, which in turns adjusts the temperature. It is then fed into the property via a heat exchanger as hot or cool air. Heat exchangers are powered using electricity.
